Similar to a hornstone, but with fossil inclusions, some tiny, one black (with white quartz crystal inclusions--a "vug",a cavity that filled over time--put that larger fossil under a 10x loop and you'll spot even smaller fossils inside the black concentric ring. The piece was found along the Wabash River, so this flint itself might have come from some site far removed from the Gibson Co.,Indiana, field that produced the Pinetree. Length is 1&7/8" by 1&1/16", very slightly over 1/4" max thickness. Note that tip--what were they using the tip for? The sides of the tip are deliberately indented (Early Archaic work), but it's too rounded to serve as a burin--too fragile, too. How the tip survived farm fields is anyone's guess.
