Shipping is $8.00 on this very long (4&5/16"), THIN knife--a caliper reaches 5/16" on only one small stack, with much of the blade being 1/4" thickness. At its widest the piece is 1&7/16" across, but may have been slightly wider if the basal corner wasn't anciently use-damaged. One note about that corner--on the edge are some very tiny use-made flakes to indicate the Early Culture hunter found a secondary use for the sharp edge the break created--something was being scraped, using that sharper edge.Decades past, these flat based knifes were thought to be a transitional Paleo knife, a "Stanfield Knife", not so much a Cobbs Knife (Early Archaic). The flaking, as you study it shows more of the Outre Pas technique, long flakes that travel well past the mid line of the blade--and they can be more diagonal than lateral--that's what this Daviess County, Indiana, knife shows: far longer flake scars than a typical Cobbs Knife. Flint:I can't say for certain if the material was carried in from outside my area, or if a small, localized deposit was used--it looks like something they heat treated, but heat-tempering wasn't a technique the Late Paleo were known for--wish I could provide more detail on the flint employed, but I'll keep checking in with collectors in the area--someone will know the material. Every detail is guaranteed authentic, period. I welcome checks and M.O.s, but do not use electronic payments (like paypal)--Roy A.
