Under 2,000 years of creek patina, is the piece Hornstone or is it the form of St. Louis Green flint found in the McLean County, Kentucky, area? Since there isn't a modern chip to be found, somewhere a dark gray of fresh hornstone shows, I have to go with St Louis Green, color and high luster are right--also the way that flint permits fine pressure chipping. Good flints, high silicate ones, that is, they allow those super-fine pressure flakes to be made. The flaking is here. The Square Stem (Robbins) is from the right area of northwest Kentucky, too. The last owner wasn't certain of which county, but figure somewhere near the Henderson, Kentucky, area, you won't be far off. Length is just under 3&1/4" by 1&3/8", with a thin profile at 5/16". There is slight wear on the barb ends, but a finely made tip. The blade shows moderate wear--this was a hafted knife, it was used and sharpened as needed--there should be some wear. Patina is excellent, every detail is lifetime guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $8.00, checks or M.O>s welcomed. Please note, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
