The patina is pure creek stain--if there WAS a modern-made chip the dark gray of the Indiana Hornstone would show--I can't find so much as a tiny chip that's modern. I type the piece as a Cornernotched Pinetree, but if you see a Cornernotched Kirk, I can understand that. There is enough basal edge grinding that I'm comfortable with the Pinetree designation--a Kirk would have very little (usually) basal grinding. There are always exceptions--what's not a question on this Knox County, Indiana, find is the authenticity--lifetime guaranteed real in every detail. Length is fractionally over 2&1/2" by 1&5/16"--thinness is just over 1/4" by my caliper. Thin, superbly pressure flaked, much of the edge work parallel oblique, those superb angled flakes the Early Archaic people specialized in.. The only thing I can characterize as 'damage' is a very slight wear on the (formerly) needle tip--and a flake below the tip that looks like it exfoliated in the thousands of years of freeze-thaw the flint went through--close up photo (in sunlight) shows in detail.
