Strong bevels, strong patina, strong basal edge grinding, 100% authenticity. The piece was found, labeled by Norman Reid as a 1961 find, Clay County, Illinois. Length is 2& by 1&1/2" inch--too bad the one barb shows an old snap-off or the width would have been slightly wider. As I can't give (post) a photo taken through my 10x loop you'll have to take my word for it that there is mineralization in the snap-off area--i.e. old damage. The flint is a high silicate material, superb knapp-ability, and somewhat translucent (see photo). The closest flint matching this is Indiana Derby Flint from Perry County, Indiana--what that flint would be doing is Clay County, Illinois, though, isn't logical, so I'm of the belief the material is a local high grade flint (Chalcedony) Kaolin, in a white form--a few yellow streaks in the flint seem to confirm that.
